A Sculptural Dragonfly
Michelle Agnew
Create a stunning 3D goldwork dragonfly through an innovative fusion of goldwork and stumpwork techniques. This intermediate-level class explores creative applications of goldwork threads—including pearl purl, smooth purl, bright check, and passing—to capture realistic insect patterns while achieving delicate, lifelike results. Working on linen and silk fabrics, students will master new methods for rendering 3D textures and forms.

Spring Quaker Ball
Karen Dudzinski
In this class, students will work to stitch the components of a 3D Quaker ball. The pieces are stitched on two different colours of 28-count evenweave using a variety of threads and beads. Not only will we work through the challenging stitches in class, but we will also start the assembly process, so students can see just how zen the experience can be. The project kit contains a full-colour chart book, with lots of space for students to take notes while learning from the designer herself.

Creative Mixed Media Embroidery

This creative mixed-media embroidery class doesn’t teach a set kit design; instead by using a wide variety of embroidery techniques (including but not limited to fabric painting, goldwork, stumpwork, silk shading, couture beading and blackwork, all of which will be taught and demonstrated by the instructor) students will create unique pieces inspired by their own artwork and reference imagery. This class aims to provide a fun, creative and supportive environment for students to unleash their inner artist and create truly individual designs.

Miyabi
Marian Preshing
Traditional Japanese embroidery is an ancient form of surface embroidery that has been admired by many but practiced by few. Miyabi, a Japanese word meaning “elegance”, perfectly describes the piece we will be working on in this workshop. Using traditional Japanese tools, techniques, and fibres, we will create a delicate golden sphere with superimposed designs over a lattice of gold threads and a cornflower centre on a silk background. The class will include design transfer, mounting onto a traditional Japanese embroidery frame, and finishing the design before removal from the frame.
All materials and tools included.
